BUCKEYE BREEDERS DIRECTORY

The American Buckeye Club Breeders Directory will be updated on a quarterly basis as new Buckeye Breeders are established. If you are a Buckeye breeder, or know a breeder that wants to be identified, please contact us by e-mail with your name, mailing address, e-mail address, website, phone number, NPIP number and what you offer for sale (such hatching eggs, chicks, adult birds).   If you don’t have an NPIP number we will simply mark your listing under NPIP as “NA”, “???” or "No".

In addition, please provide information about your "strain" following the year you began breeding Buckeyes. Here are a few examples; "Brown", "Urch", "ALBC", "Lay” or “Hatchery".  If you don’t know the strain, simply state “Unknown” or if they came from a hatchery list that (“Ideal” or “Meyer”).  Buckeye breeders who do not wish to identify their strain will be listed as “???” following the line “Breeder since 20XX”.  However, breeders should expect to answer the following question “What strain or line are you working with?” when prospective buyers contact you because this website is intended to educate folks!

For those who don't know the definition of "strain" here is the APA definition;

"A family of any variety of fowls bred in line by descent by ONE fancier, or a successor, during a number of YEARS, that has acquired individual characteristics which distinguish it more or less from other strains or specimens of the same variety."

PLEASE READ the BOTTOM of this page for a detailed explanation of how this directory identifies breeders based on a color code system and how breeders might have been listed in this directory based on "PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE" (other breed directories, websites & the internet). If you wish to be removed from this directory send us an email and be aware it may take 1-3 months for your information to be extracted.

Buckeye Breeder Since 2010: Unknown (Hatchery)
NPIP: N/A

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The American Buckeye Club has established a color code system to help identify Buckeye Breeders based on how many years they have been breeding and raising Buckeyes. A “Breeder” will be defined to be someone who has been breeding Buckeyes for 7 years or more. The reason for this is due to the amount of time it takes to develop a breeding program that produces higher quality fowl or to establish a “strain”.  Our definition of “strain” follows that of the APA standard's definition.  In the case of the ALBC they began collecting birds in 2005 from multiple lines (Urch, Pearce, Brown & Rhodes) and after several years of breeding have established their “strain” of Buckeye that today is commonly known as the "ALBC" strain.  The probability is very high that a breeder with more years of experience with this breed should be very knowledgeable and have a high quality flock. However, just because a breeder has been raising and breeding Buckeyes for many  years does not necessarily guarantee he or she is an expert nor does it guarantee he or she has better breeding stock than someone new to the industry! Buckeye “Breeders” with 7 years or more experience will be shown in a BLACK.

We define a “Hobbyist” or "Fancier" as someone who has been involved with Buckeyes for less than 7 years and we don’t want new comers to feel these good folks are not as serious as any other Buckeye breeders.  Many “Hobbyists” (or "Fanciers") are very dedicated and many may have been involved in showing and breeding other poultry for decades.  These Buckeye breeders are a very valuable asset to the Buckeye breed and will help make considerable improvements for many years to come.  Most “Hobbyists” (or Fanciers) will be raising and selling a “strain” purchased from another breeder or a combination of breeders as they work to establish their own “strain” (which takes several years).  It is important to point out, not all breeders or “Hobbyists” (or "Fanciers") will be interested in creating a “strain”, some may want to stick with a tried and true “Urch” line and only work with that “strain” of Buckeye’s. Others may be led down the path of “diversity” and attempt to “nick” the blood of many Buckeye strains believing this is the best method for breeding their Buckeye’s.  Our “Hobbyist” or "Fancier" Breeders will be listed with a GREEN font.

“Hatcheries” are just that, large poultry businesses that may breed and sell a variety of fowl and offer Buckeye chicks.  Some “Hatcheries” have been selling Buckeyes for many years, possibly decades.  We encourage new comers to contact “Hatcheries” and inquire about the origin of their breeding stock.  Some will share information and some will not so make your choice based on what you are looking for in your purchase or future breeding program.  If you just want some Buckeye egg layers and don’t care about their origin a Hatchery is an ideal place to purchase in expensive Buckeyes!  All “Hatcheries” will be listed in a BLUE font in the BUCKEYE BREEDERS DIRECTORY.

Finally, The American Buckeye Club wishes to honor those Buckeye breeders who have been breeding and raising this magnificent fowl for decades.  Any Buckeye breeder who has dedicated more than 20 years to preservation of the Buckeye breed deserves to be given the title of “LEGACY” breeder.  The term “LEGACY” says it all, these breeders are the current foundation providers for the BUCKEYE breed that many of us have today and we cannot bestow a higher honor to these men and women who have dedicated a huge portion of their lives to this breed.  They are truly “LEGACY” breeders and perhaps you might say we saved the BEST for LAST! These “LEGACY ” breeders will be highlighted in the BUCKEYE BREEDERS DIRECTORY in a DARK RED MAHOGANY font!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The American Buckeye Club gets breeders & hatchery names, addresses and other contact information from a variety of sources.  These sources include the internet, non-copy right protected printed material and other breed directories.  If you are a Buckeye Breeder and your name appears in the BUCKEYE BREEDERS DIRECTORY it is more than likely due to "PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE" and thanks to the internet most everyone can be found these days without much difficulty! Having said this we respect everyone’s privacy and if you wish to be removed visit the "CONTACT US" page and send your request....type "remove from directory" in the comments.

The American Buckeye Club relies upon the integrity of both parties (buyers and sellers) and for obvious reasons we cannot guarantee the health and/or quality of poultry being sold.
